Bass Law Firm P.A., is the family law firm headed by Iris M. Bass, a former teacher, whose sensitivity to her client’s needs is paramount.
After graduating from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York with a degree in education and psychology Ms. Bass taught for several years on Long Island. It was during this period that she became aware of the traumatic effects of divorce on her fifth and sixth grade students.
Ms. Bass relocated to South Florida and shortly thereafter became a student herself at Nova Center For the Study of Law in Ft. Lauderdale.During her time there she became aware of a method to resolve disputes other than litigation; mediation was an attractive alternative to the traditional courtroom model.
Once in practice, Iris initially practiced in various civil areas but began to focus primarily on family matters; she became certified as a family mediator in 1993. She has successfully mediated many family cases over the nearly twenty years since she became Certified as a Supreme Court Family Mediator.
In the late 1990’s Iris became aware of another alternative to litigation, the Collaborative Process. Iris was one of twenty attorneys in Broward County who believed that litigation was not the best method to resolve family disputes. In 2000 this group of attorneys organized the Collaborative Family Lawyers of South Florida practice group that today includes financial professionals and mental health professionals as well as attorneys from the tri-county area.
Both mediation and the collaborative process are a significant portion of Bass Law Firm, P.A.’s practice.
